Coconut Development Board under Ministry of Agriculture, Govt. of India has instituted national level awards to recognise and promote excellence in coconut cultivation and marketing. The awards carrying cash prize ranging from Rs. 25,000 to Rs. 50,000 will be given in 20 categories.

The categories include the best farmer at national and regional levels (South West and East-North East), best coconut processor (Conventional and Non Conventional Products), best research worker ( a. Product Development / New Applications and uses for Coconut / nutritional & biochemical findings. b. Machinery / Equipment Development ), best craftsman manufacturing coconut based handicrafts (large and small scale) and best exporter of coconut products(category below and above Rs.10crore).
Other categories includes the best extension worker in the field of coconut development, the best co-operative society / NGO in the field of coconut development, the best palm climber (a. Climber using traditional methods, b. Climber using non traditional methods and c. coconut climbers under FoCT programme of the Board. and the best coconut producer society (CPS). There is also an award for best coconut processing unit managed by women.
Coconut development Board has invited applications for the farmer category by 30th June, 2013 and for other categories by 20th July, 2013. The application is to be submitted to the respective State Agriculture/ Horticulture Departments.
