Web Enabled Project Management Information System for Department of Bio Technology Projects

The Union Minister for Science & Technology & Earth Sciences Dr. Harsh Vardhan launched web enabled project management information system for the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) projects. While inaugurating the DBT Strategy Meet at the NCR Biotech Science Cluster, Faridabad today, he also unveiled a mobile app for the purpose. The application will be available at http://dbtepromis.nic.in.

These applications will help registration of new investigators, online submission of proposals, Upload project related documents and even Online tracking of projects, reviewing the proposals and intimation of release of grants.

 This is expected to avoid delay in processing project proposals and access of information to the applicants on their proposals from anywhere. Delays could be avoided as there can be peer review of the projects online.

The Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science & Technology and Earth Sciences, Dr. Jitendra Singh announced over 50% hike in the fellowship amount received by various categories of young Research scientists. This land mark decision, responding to a long standing demand by around one lakh science Research Scholars and Associates working across the country, is taken by the Department of Science & Technology under his Ministry, the Minister added.

ABSTRACT: Various disciplines have emerged due to vast expansion in the studies of plant sciences. Discovery of new methods, protocols and analytical techniques facilitates for thorough and deep study of the given subject. One among many disciplines which has appeared as an offshoot from basic plant science is forensic botany. Forensic botany is an interdisciplinary area where the knowledge of botany is applied to solve the crime. This paper introduces about the basic of the subject explaining various sub-disciplines and its application in forensic science. It also cites some cases where botanical evidences have been the part of judgements.

The concept of Glowing Plants is gaining more popularity on internet and among scientific communities in the last couple of months. In this regard Indian Botanists Blog-o-Journal also published an article, Will 'Glowing Plants' Replace Street Lights? recently. A group of biologists under the project ‘Glowing Plants’, aims to create a glow-in-the-dark plant using synthetic biology techniques. Last three year performance of Indian states in Biotechnological Research

In our previous post we analysed the position of all states of India with regard to biotechnological research based on the number of ongoing projects funded by Department of Biotechnology as March 6th 2013. Based on the number of ongoing projects we categorised different states into three groups. States falling under different group are shown in table.

Tomato Engineering - Understanding Fruit Development and Ripening Parameters

Tomato is an important ingredient of many Indian dishes. In many parts of Indian states you can't think of food with tomato. It is consumed in different forms such as tomato sauce, ketchup, condiments, added flavours, salad, etc. In southern part of India tomato-rice (takkali sadam) is one of the popular dish which is prepared adding tomato with rice. It adds sourness to the food and also it is used as base for gravy holding the spices and onion together.
