The Government has announced the Science,
Technology and Innovation (STI) Policy-2013 which aims to provide both investment of science led technology and innovation in select areas of socio-economic importance.
Accordingly, the STI Policy seeks to:

(i) Enhance India`s global share of scientific publications from the present
3.5% to 7.0 %;
(ii) Establish world class infrastructure for Research and
Development (R&D) in some select areas;
(iii) Make careers in science,
research and innovation attractive enough for talented and bright minds;
(iv)
Create an environment for enhanced private sector participation in R&D,
technology and innovation;
(v) Seed S&T based high risk Innovation;
Policy aims to double the global share of Indian research publications and quadruple the number of research papers in the top 1% journals from current levels by 2020. Global share of Indian publication was observed 3.5% in 2011 and percantage of Indian publication in the top 1% impact making journal was 2.5%.
It further aims to attract private sector in R&D, performance linked reward and investment, gender parity, inter university centres etc.
A strong and viable Science, Research and innovation System for High
Technology-led path for India (SRISHTI) is the goal of the new STI policy as mentioned in a press release through press information bureau.
