To commemorate and honour Professor Mahendra Prasad, a legendary plant pathologist, on the occasion of his 80th birth anniversary, Department of Botany of Ranchi University, Ranchi, India in collaboration with Ranchi University Botany Alumni Association (RUBAA), today on 13th March 2014 (Thursday), organised 'Professor (Dr) Mahendra Prasad Memorial lecture'. The event was organised at Dhanwantri Hall of Department of Botany at Ranchi University, Ranchi India.
Professor Mahendra Prasad did extensive research in the field of plant pathology in general and plant pathogens (such as Fusarium oxysporum, Xanthomonas campestris, Xanthomonas malvacearum) in particular. His research findings were published in various international journal of high impact factor. Professor Prasad explained the dynamics of amino acid variations during pathogenesis and host resistance which was published in Zentralblatt in 1980.
Professor L N Bhagat, the Vice Chancellor of Ranchi University appreciated this effort initiated by teachers of the department and appealed to all the students and teachers present there to carry forward the mission of Professor Mahendra Prasad.
Smt. Kiran Prasad, wife of professor Mahendra Prasad donated Rs.One Lakh Fifty Thousand to the department on this occasion. She requested to use this amount as scholarship for meritorius students of botany. Daughter Smt Nandita Sharan and his grand daughter were also present to share their experiences.
This memorial lecture was a first of its kind bringing botanists and alumni of the department together. Speakers shared their experiences which they spent with Prof Mahendra Prasad.
Prof M Razuddeen, Pro-Vice Chancellor; Prof KK Nag, Ex-Vice Chancellor; Prof TK Ghosh, Prof SB Akhauri; Prof Shivendra Kumar, Principal Scientist, ICAR also graced this occasion.
Prof Jyoti Kumar, Prof H P Sharma, Prof Kamini Kumar and Prof Ramesh Pandey plays important role in successful organisation of this event. Shri B K Sinha, IPS (Retd) an alumini of the department gave acknowledgement speech.

ReplyDeleteIt is indeed a matter of pride to see mention of my gurus like Prof KK Nag sir, Prof Mahendra Prasad sir, Prof TK Ghosh sir, Prof Ramesh Pandey sir, Prof Jyoti Kumar sir. We are proud to see that our gurus are being facilitated like this for their contribution in the field of education and research. I was fortunate to be part of Botany Department of Ranchi University of 1990-91 batch passed out in 1994. Thanks to organisers of the event.
